Students at Taunton School are celebrating following the completion of a successful cricket season in which they were coached by England cricketer, Marcus Trescothick.
Marcus has been a key part of the Taunton School cricket provision for nine years and has worked with students from across the school during this time, leading various teams to regional finals, national T20 competitions, and county cups, including the Somerset county final which Taunton Prep School U12s won against King’s Hall School. Following the end of the school term, Marcus returned to his England cricket duties which began with a test match at Lord’s in early July.
Director of Cricket, Pete Sanderson, said: “Marcus is an integral part of the cricket programme at Taunton School. The enthusiasm and energy he brings is amazing, as is his commitment to the players and the programme.
“It has been extremely beneficial to have Marcus spend a whole summer at Taunton School, taking one-to-ones and small groups for specialist work, as well as spending time with various teams across the girls and boys matches in both the senior and prep schools. I speak on behalf of everyone when I say we can’t wait to have him back when he has finished his England duties.”
Cricket is one of the many sports offered by Taunton School and each year is one of the most successful in terms of results achieved. This season students scored nine 100s, the most seen in a single season in the school’s history, and the school’s 1st XI won a match against the prestigious MCC.
The school has provisions for both boys’ and girls’ teams, with the girls’ teams going from strength to strength, receiving caps for the very first time this year and becoming county champions thanks to the U15 girls team winning the Lady Taverners Indoor Final.
Megan, a Year 8 cricket player and youngest person to join the Somerset County Cricket Club Emerging Players Programme this year, said: “I have really enjoyed having Mr Trescothick around this season. It has been good to have someone who has experience playing very high-level cricket around us and sharing really useful advice.”
